I have just completed my 2nd set of scans and lab work since finishing treatment June 2009. SCC stage III right tonsil and a lymph-node, all HPV derived.... Nine weeks of Chemo (Cisplaten, Taxotere and 5FU) followed up with seven weeks of concurrent Carboplaten once a week and 35x Radiation exposures preceded each day with Amifostine injections.... All is clear, no signs of cancer..... I'm still a little below the low normal on WBC and RBC but everything else is back in the normal ranges..... My taste is still off, but nothing compared to others I've read about.... I can taste most everything again, but most taste diminishes within a few bites, not everything though. I didn't need a PEG which was good. I have no problem eating, other than learning my new taste for differing foods and drink. Water is by far the best thing for drink....at one time it just tasted like plain old sweat, very nasty. Saliva is still hard to come by, especially at night. But I'm learning to live with a bottle of water close by at all times. I hope all continues to stay positive and good, as well as the same for all of you as well. Thanks for all of the continued prayers and thoughts.
God Bless, John

Weird thing about praying, right?
Maybe this sounds weird, but we've talked a lot, and you know how strange i actually am concerning spiritual issues. I knew you would be OK. I know you're gonna fish with us a lot of times.
People have survived. You've survived. God bless you, my dear friend. God bless us all for having you here amongst us. It's been tough, but you see light. There's a reason God's kept you around, Skiff. I have a very dear friend -- a woman -- that's still in my life. Many -- including herself -- felt she was leaving. She stayed. It's been years and she's left behind the fear and pain and loneliness. All's left is the love she felt during the fight.

Naawww that J16 is a sweet boat, ankle deep shallow...I still love that boat, motor and trailer.... Sorry to hear about the health discovery, but glad they found it rather early it seems. From my understanding that cancer is a very slow growing cancer. Hopefully they can get you treated and over it fairly fast. They have some great drugs and meds for any sides you might encounter. For me the chemo wasn't bad at all, the radiation is another story all together though, especially combined concurrently with chemo. It's definitely a rough diet....you might have to change your screen name to Little John.... If I can offer any information from my ordeal, let me know and I'll try to answer anything for you. Are you being treated at the VA, if so which? Best of luck to you John, prayers are with you and your wife. If I can help you out in anyway let me know and I'll do what I can. GULFSCUBA, you PM'd me a question, but I couldn't reply as your PM's are turned off.... here is the reply though; No, no, no and no...LOL... I've never smoked or used tobacco products, no history of cancer in my family either. They aren't really sure why HPV related cancers are becoming so prevalent in males in there 50's.... If you do a little research, you'll find that it's actually over taking tobacco related throat cancers....scary huh.... JG

Hey I know about the taste - just finished my radiation 9/30 and everything tasted like a cross between cardboard and dirt - getting a little back now but Taco Bell sure doesn't taste like it used too, tonight was my first LOL

Actually I can taste Taco Bell tacos pretty well now...and Burger King double cheesburgers...mmmm LOL. But that has only came in the last month or so, hang in there, it gets better. Even if it doesn't, it's definitely better than the alternative. __________________ <")}}}*>< |
