I fished the TGH Charity Tourney again this year and just buy luck one of the clients I had fished before was on my boat again. Last time Drew was on my boat it was the first year I did this event and we won it.It is a slam tourney and the turn out was good and so were some of the costumes at the Captains meeting. One guy was a channel marker with a hard hat and an attached green flashing light on his head along with a marker number. We leave the dock with 5 hours to see what we can do. Drew, Christine and Dave were ready to go.The tides in the morning were not that great but I told them that the bite would pick up as the morning progressed. Our first stopped produce a few hits/ hookups but nothing made it to the boat and the bite was really not on yet.The next stop at first was not producing but the water was starting to move pretty good and bam we get our first solid hit and hookup after a little battle for Christine she had her first snook. The Ice was broken. Then Drew gets a solid hit and the drag goes and he gets his snook. Then teasingly I say to Dave whats up were waiting on you, your slacking. Then Drew gets hammered by a beast of a snook and it comes up to the top of the water and flares its gills. This is the one we were looking for but she comes unbuttoned shortly after the thrill had started. Then the current picked up and our baits were flowing through the area to fast and we were not getting the hits any more so I repositioned the boat to slow the baits down and the bite was on again After a few more snook Dave finally gets one on and its a catfish( the only one of the day) and I say Dave whats up every one else is catching snook( just joking around). Then it happened Dave gets the hit and out of the water comes a snook Dave is on and I am rooting for him.We land Dave's first snook and now everyone has snook. We try for a little longer to up our size but now it is decision time. Leave the snook that are biting to try for the slam(only 1hr 20 min left) or cross the bay where I know there has been some reds and trout for the slam.
We went for it.We get to the area and I set the anchor and throw a live whitebait on Christine's hook and cast her out. Then I was getting ready to cut some chunk bait a huge red boils on her bait it comes out of the water and the red misses it. We wait for the return attack but it never happens. With her bait being attacked instantly i through some liveys out and within seconds Drew is hooked up to a red then Dave gets hooked up to a red also. The bite is on Christine gets a trout then another red. A few more snook and we are out of time we have to leave them biting to be able to make it back before the cut off. We get back just in time. They had a nice lunch for us and it was a great day of fishing.I do not think there were many slams but ours was not large enough for a trophy this time but at least we slammed.Congrats to Capt. George(another George) on the win. Good day with a good cause. Here are a couple of pics.
